USN and USMC Squadrons in the Pacific
U.S. Navy and Marine PV-1 operations ranged across the Pacific Ocean, from the Aleutian Islands in the North to Guadalcanal in the South flying armed reconnaissance missions between March 1943 to August 1945, 16 U.S. Navy PV-1 Ventura and PV-2 Harpoon squadrons participated in the war against Japan comprising of VB/VPB- (Navy Bombing and Navy Patrol Squadron) 128, 130, 133, 135, 136, 137, 138, 139, 140, 142, 144, 146, 150, 151, 152, and 153. These squadrons operated under the control of U. S. Navy Fleet Air Wings (FAW) which dictated the activities of individual squadrons. The Marine Corps operated one night fighter squadron VMF(N)-531 in the Pacific and is credited with shooting down 12 Japanese aircraft.
USN Squadrons in the Atlantic
In all, 15 PV squadrons were formed for Atlantic operations consisting of VB/VPB-125, 126, 127, 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 134, 141, 143, 145, 147, and 149.
